Within the frame of changes that present themselves with the evolution and dynamics of the world system in the context of globalization, and in face of the scarce political impact that the Latin American countries have in the international concert, this article proposes the development of a novel theory of geopolitics that will permit the peripheral states (such as the Latin American) to participate in the system of relations in a manner that does not necessarily imply either confrontation with them nor their submission. For this purpose, the author makes a critical review of the criteria on geopolitics (classical, and above all, Latin American) as well as the impact of the market economy in these countries, that are still under the yoke of dependency, to propose ways of a true regional integration.
