This article has as its goal to explore the process of upsurge, adaptation and change of the institutions of Mexican democracy and its articulation within the context of high social inequality. In it, five essential themes are explored: 1) the theoretical argumentation of the relationship democracy-social inequality; 2) institutional change of the authoritarian regime towards democracy in two planes of liberation: political and economical; 3) the hybrid process between formal and informal institutions that occurs through the institutional adaptation of the actors; 4) types of participation that flow through this institutional hybridization and 5) the social performance of the institutions.
