This article seeks to contribute to a theoretical-conceptual formulation for the human rights of women, placing the gender violence as the environement in which the violation of their rights is con-sumated. To this purpose, the author exposes a series of preliminary reflections that point to the responsability of the communication media in the representation and social reproduction of violence against women, with the objective of making these institutions contribute to its erradication. Likewise, she analyzes the General Law of Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence as the first legal instrument that protects the rights of women in regards to their integrity, their liberty and their happiness.
