RIOS BOLIVAR, Humberto; VALDERRAMA SANTIBANEZ, Ana Lilia e NEME CASTILLO, Omar. Determinants of the growth of Mexico's manufacturing exports to the United States, 1987-2007. Inv. Econ [online]. 2012, vol.71, n.279, pp.149-180. ISSN 0185-1667.
The paper estimates the determinants of the market share of Mexican manufacturing industries into the United States, distinguishing between determinants related and unrelated to technology. Estimations are based on a theoretical model that allows classifying industries according to the competition process pursued by industries included in each group. Regarding technological aspects, four categories were identified: among industries with high technology, those with high and low intra-industry trade, and among low technology industries those with high and low intra-industry. Distinction betweem these groups is represented by a process of product innovation, vertical or horizontal product differentiation, price or quality differences, domestic market structure, and labor costs.
