Resumen

HERNANDEZ LAOS, Enrique. Convergences and Divergences between the of Mexico and the United States Economies in Century XX. Inv. Econ [online]. 2004, vol.63, n.250, pp.87-129. ISSN 0185-1667.

The author examines the convergence/divergence process between the Mexican and the North American economies during the XX century, within a framework of the sources of demographic and economic growth. He finds that, with the exception of Maddison's golden age (1950-1973), the main tendencies were towards divergence, both in the size of the two economies and in per capita bases. As in relation to de "causes" of such tendencies, the author find the relevant role played by a lagging productivity growth in Mexico, and mainly the dramatic fall in total factor productivity and efficiency of the mexican economy during the last two decades of the past century.
