The article aims at analysing the Lula da Silva's economic policies after the first third of Lula da Silva government. On the one hand, it shows that these policies turned out to be surprisingly different from those most of the electoral basis of the Workers' Party would expect and support. Moreover, it shows that the Lula da Silva's economic policies provoked a recession in 2003. On the other hand, the article outlines some elements for an alternative policy strategy.
