The purpose of this article is to show the importance of ethnography on the educational researches. To do so, it presents some methodological aspects that need to be considered when an ethnographic research among kids and teenagers is proposed, as well as the necessary theoretical aspects to ensure that this research will be more than just a detailed description. The substantiation was based on Collins [1988], Elias [2005], Geertz [2008] and Woods [1987]. As a second step, this text presents the excerpt of a research, which aims to discuss about theoretical and methodological indications previously presented. During 3 years, data had been collected regarding children between 9 and 14 years old, attending to a public school in the city of São Paulo/Brazil. One of the targets of this research was to understand how kids and teenagers perceived themselves within the schooling process, since they had experienced, at least once, school failure. The clarification that the students understand the schooling process is surprisingly proportional to the slightly committed behavior of some School professionals.
