Abstract

BE RAMIREZ, Pedro Antonio. Migrantes yucatecos, itinerarios transnacionales y aprendizajes: la experiencia desde un escenario turístico. Cuicuilco [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.64, pp.63-87. ISSN 0185-1659.

This article explores the lives of Yucatecan migrants working in tourist service industry jobs on the Mexican Caribbean island of Cozumel; an important beautiful and successful vacation spot. The paper discusses the connections between domestic and international migration and, in this sense, seeks to characterize the daily life of the migrants in Telchac Pueblo, whilst emphasizing the connections and the retro alimentation within and across this transitional terrain. The analysis is centered on their personal motives and the different ways that migrant service workers restructure and transform both their home and their host communities, in essence reinventing their existence whilst enriching their community of choice.

Keywords : Domestic and international migration; migrant experience; Telchac Pueblo; Yucatan; Cozumel; Quintana Roo.
