The populations inhabiting the state of Oaxaca are characterized by high mobility since pre-Hispanic times; a clear example of this is seen in the Mesoamerican Classic Period of Teotihuacan, where evidence has been found of the presence of groups from the southern state, mostly from a neighborhood known as Tlailotlacan or Oaxacan [Millon, 1973; Spence, 2002, 2005]. While studies at this pre-Hispanic settlement have gained importance in recent years [Archer, 2012, Ortega, 2009-2012, Palomares, 2007], a phenomenon that dates back to the 1980s has been neglected: the migration of families of Oaxacan origin and their settlement in the same area that formed the old neighborhood. This article addresses the migratory phenomenon that has characterized the area, both during the pre-Hispanic era and in contemporary times, as an example of the dynamics that generate the movement of Oaxacan communities from their place of origin.
