Resumen

LIENDO STUARDO, Rodrigo. Una revisión arqueológica de la historia de Palenque durante los siglos VIII y IX (fases Murciélagos-Balunté). Cuicuilco [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.60, pp.67-82. ISSN 0185-1659.

Since its inception in 1996, the focus of our research in the region of Palenque has been to seek relevant material indicators and the identification of significant spatial variables to enable the future characterization and understanding of the processes involved in the development of the political regime throughout the area. From our research, and the work carried out in the region by several colleagues over the years, we have noted three phenomena that, due to their relevance, should be addressed in much greater detail in future research, but which I would like to introduce in a very general way in this paper. The first has to do with: The identification of a major regional Preclassic component, which until a few years ago we thought was absent in the case of Palenque. This discovery should lead us to rethink our ideas on the phenomenon of social complexity in the region, this time as an "in situ" phenomenon. The second phenomenon has to do with: a) The existence of subregions with clear material differences. The latter probably resulting from specific historical developments. The existence of this variety puts in doubt the possibility of addressing the problem of regional political integration as a homogeneous phenomenon of political influence, or "control," by Palenque on a regional basis. And finally, we are confident that: b) The evidence indicates a clear expansion of elements from Palenque throughout the region towards the end of the periods (Murciélagos-Balunté 730850 AD), perhaps indicating an increase in the influence of Palenque on communities integrated into the wider region and, undoubtedly, a transformation of the mechanisms of political integration on a regional level.

Palabras llave : Palenque; political organization; pre-Hispanic Mayan; archeology; social practice.
