Resumen

VILLANUEVA, Cleva; SEVILLA GONZALEZ, María de la Luz  y  KROSS, Robert David. La bioética medioambiental y el estrés oxidativo. Cuicuilco [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.58, pp.91-108. ISSN 0185-1659.

One of the consequences of modern life is the generation of environmental pollution, which not only includes airborne toxins but also products and foods which, although offering the false promise of making life easier, in fact alter the body's physiology. This pollution contributes to oxidative stress, which is one of the events involved in developing chronic degenerative diseases. In this paper, bio-ethical considerations are reflected upon that could influence in regulating the human activities that generate environmental pollution. The responsibilities of governments and individual rights are discussed. The case of the Latin American population in general, and the Mexican population in particular, is presented, comprised of individuals susceptible to oxidative stress caused by environmental pollution, perhaps due to genetic factors, in highly polluted environments, such as that of Mexico City.

Palabras llave : bio-ethics; oxidative stress; environmental pollution.
