Abstract

This article explores the possibility of reconstructing certain fragments of a sort of critical anthropology in one of the seminal works of anthropological theory: Bronislaw Malinowski's The Argonauts of the Western Pacific. To do so, we considered the use of an analytical model containing three critical variants: empirical critique, immanent critique and normative critique or possible alterity/otherness. Thus, the objective is to use the model for pinpointing some fragments of The Argonauts that could be interpreted as comprising a component of critical anthropology.
