Abstract

CASTILLO BERNAL, Stephen. La antigua ciudad de Cantona: ¿Ciudad-Estado con redes corporativas excluyentes?. Cuicuilco [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.56, pp.127-172. ISSN 0185-1659.

This article considers the applicability of the city-state and the dual-processual models to the site of Cantona, Puebla. A reevaluation is made of the Mesoamerican Epi-Classic period of the Central Highlands, the insertion of Cantona at this historic juncture, as well as the characteristic archeological reference points. After applying the aforementioned models, it is proposed that the political entity of Cantona could be explained on the basis of both models. That it so say, as a city-state with various political and economic strategies intended to strengthen the power of the former heads of the so-called Teotihuacan antithesis.

Keywords : Cantona; city-state; dual-processual theory; Epi-Classical.
