Abstract

SEGUNDO GUZMAN, Miguel Ángel. Mirar a lo lejos: pasos hacia una antropología de la mirada. Cuicuilco [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.56, pp.35-52. ISSN 0185-1659.

This article endeavors to question the epistemological line that separates biology and culture in the study of human beings. The topic of "observing" may stimulate discussion: anthropology must enter into dialogue with the hard sciences to reach an explanation of the phenomena of representation. The construct of recurring visual images is essential for understanding the interpretation of the Other in the West, since observation is interpreting within the symbolism of the person observing: it is a circular process of a selective appropriation of the world.

Keywords : observing; brain; representations; habitus; otherness.
