Religious dance traditions are an expression of religious syncretism in which the relationship between the indigenous, mixed blood and Creole Catholicism groups are disputed. However, in the context of cultural globalization and the intensification of symbolic mobility, these dances are being reinterpreted by urban neo-Mexicanism movements that inspired innovative New-Age type beliefs, establishing links between the pre-Hispanic civilizations, popular Catholicism, popular urban culture and a global network known as New-Age religion. We analyze a case study of an Aztec dance group from Guadalajara, which is one of the oldest groups in the city and acts as an interface for the practitioners of neo-Mexicanism, spiritual seekers, Catholic mystics, intellectuals and for the popular dance traditions.
