Abstract

AQUINO MORESCHI, Alejandra. Las lógicas del no-reconocimiento y la lucha cotidiana de las migrantes zapotecas en Estados Unidos: Breve etnografía del servicio doméstico. Cuicuilco [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.49, pp.221-242. ISSN 0185-1659.

In Northern countries, domestic service is reserved almost exclusively to migrant women from countries of the South. In recent decades, thousands of Oaxacan women have migrated to the us and mostly have been inserted in this occupational niche. Based on ethnographic research in the city of Los Angeles with Zapotec migrants from the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca and the connection of this empirical material with some thoughts by Axel Honneth, I intend to report the experience of these women as domestic workers and the type of work and personal relationships that are established. The analytical unit experience will allow me to capture the subjectivities of these women, thereby restoring their roles as social actors.

Keywords : Domestic service; migration; struggles for recognition; Los Angeles; Oaxaca.
