Although the peninsular ones soon realize the land occupied in the otomí region of Amealco is not adequate for agricultural activities, they know it is right for rising cattle. Juan de Burgos, for instance, made the most of it when obtaining 13 cattle farms and three horse stables, as well as three and a half leagues of land with two thousand steps wide. This land was formerly owned by an influential man, Gonzalo de Salazar. Later, in 1590, these were regrouped by Alonso de la Torre and were eventually part of a ranch named San Nicolas de la Torre.
