Based in a thorough revision of the concepts of culture, identity and development, this essay addresses the social changes happened in the world with the globalization process, giving special emphasis to the influence of globalization over museology. The aim is to rethink its capacity to act in the globalized culture, perceiving museums as agents of transformation and stimulators of social and cultural change. Heritage and Museum are here understood as polissemic concepts. The essay defends the idea of reinventing museums in everyday life, as mediators between the knowledge and know how of the different social groups, turning them into communication tools and instruments of understanding and intercultural tolerance. This essay starts from a reflection about the social changes happened in the world since the globalization, and it's supported in a culture, identity and development's concepts revision. It's important to identify the influence of the cultural globalization in the museology with the aid to rethink their performance capacity in the globalized world and to see the museum not only as an institution which care and protect the material rests from the past, but a transformer agent and as a stimulator factor of social and cultural changes.
