Resumen

TAVERA VILLEGAS, Hugo David. Machiavelli's Moses or how to fight envy. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2019, n.47, pp.117-139.  Epub 31-Mayo-2020. ISSN 0185-1616.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484903e.2019.47.69502.

Although the attraction that Machiavelli feels towards Moses is shared with many of his contemporaries, the interpretation he offers about him, I argue here, departs from the then dominant reading, strongly influenced by the reception of Plato's political thought. Whereas within that context Moses was considered the paradigm of the "philosopher-legislator", for Machiavelli the leader of the Jews is the best example of the "armed prophet", that is, of whom to protect the new orders from the envy of the great proceeds to arm the people's desire not to be dominated.

Palabras llave : Moses; legislator; armed prophet; envy; conflict.
