Abstract

AMADOR BECH, Julio. Hans-Georg Gadamer: Historicity of the comprehension of history. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2019, n.46, pp.13-40.  Epub May 27, 2020. ISSN 0185-1616.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484903e.2019.46.68287.

The article presents a critical synthesis of the general guidelines of philosophical hermeneutics, founded by Hans-Georg Gadamer. It begin by showing the way in which Gadamer based his work on the ontological foundations of hermeneutics, laid by his mentor, Martin Heidegger in his essay Ontology (hermeneutics of facticity) of 1923. Gadamer’s basic concepts about comprehension and interpretation are exposed and, then, situated within the framework of our understanding of history, which is, at the same time, historical. It is shown that we are always immersed in traditions, and that the way in which we belong to a specific tradition guides our interpretation of texts and works of art.

Keywords : Hans-Georg Gadamer; philosophical hermeneutics; historicity; comprehension; interpretation.
