The author highlights the relevant and current role of teaching and research of Social Sciences at UNAM and reflects on the importance of promoting its institutional renewal. In his view, various diagnoses show that the University is undergoing a process of change and one of its main strengths is the value of social responsibility as a public university in Latin America. He also points out some of the commitments and challenges facing both the institution to fulfill its mission and social scientists to meet the demands of the knowledge society.
