This essay is an attempt to understand social and belligerent participation in Oaxaca. It focuses on three issues: first the historic line of Ejército Popular Revolucionario (EPR) and its influence in the Sierra Sur of Oaxaca; second the contra insurgent strategy designed by local government which has incorporated policies about indigenous people and the militarization of zones advocate for the armed participation; at the end, the EPR’s political role at the moment in Oaxaca.
