India is a good example to test the weight of culture in the construction of a nation. Political struggle towards liberation from Britain dominion led indians to review their history, there they found India's capacity to absorb any foreign intrusion enriching its culture. Nationalism emerged from the profound discussions on their philosophical and religious legacy. Indian leaders tried to fit tradition and modemity, religiort and political order, in this aim the presence of Mahatma Gandhi is relevant, his contribution to India's liberation and to the peculiar concept of nationalism is indisputable.
