SUESCUN MONROY, Pilar. Beyond the Limits: Latin America and the History of Photography. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.121, pp.371-395.  Epub 31-Jul-2023. ISSN 0185-1276.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2022.121.2794.

The history of photography has traditionally been written by dominant nations. At a very early stage, the approach was predominantly technical and Eurocentric, but also, following Newhall’s The History of Photography, came to reflect attitudes peculiar to the United States. This article reviews some texts that form part of the historiography of the photographic field and seeks to identify how the concept of Latin American photography took shape.

Palavras-chave : Photography; history; historiography of photography; history of Latin American photography; Latin America.
