Resumen

This paper reports results of analytical and experimental studies of four specimens at scale 1/2.5 representative of a typical prototype column of a precast concrete bridge with socket connection in the footing. The tested specimens were of two types, the first had a column with socket foundation without prestressing in the foundation and the second had in addition prestressed cables in the foundation. Reversible cyclic loads were applied to the specimens using a reaction wall. Measured and calculated values of lateral resistance and lateral deformation of specimens were compared. The friction force between the column and foundation was calculated and its relevance in the behavior of socket-base connections with precast concrete column is discussed. Based on the results of this study recommendations are given for the seismic design of the socket foundation.
