ZUNIGA CUEVAS, Oscar y TERAN GILMORE, Amador. Evaluación basada en desplazamientos de edificaciones de mampostería confinada. Ing. sísm [online]. 2008, n.79, pp.25-48. ISSN 0185-092X.
The architectural tendencies and the urbanization needs of the large urban centers of Mexico have given place to masonry buildings whose structural layout does not satisfy the regularity conditions required to promote an adequate seismic performance. Under these circumstances, it is important for masonry buildings to be analyzed with performance-based procedures that are capable of providing enough information regarding the lateral force and displacement distributions in their inelastic range of behavior. This paper discusses a non-linear analysis procedure that allows for a reasonable evaluation of the behavior of confined masonry buildings beyond their elastic limit. Such procedure, which constitutes the basis for the formulation of performance-based evaluation and design methodologies, is based on the use of an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom system and of the wide column model, widely used by practicing structural engineers. The use of the proposed model to evaluate the seismic performance of a four-story masonry building is illustrated.
