Abstract

GARCIA TELLO, Diana Patricia. Translocal Social Networks: An Interdisciplinary Perspective of the Mixtecs Settled in the Guadalajara and Monterrey Metropolitan Areas. Nueva antropol [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.89, pp.67-80. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article offers an interdisciplinary perspective of the social networks woven by the Mixtec ethnic group that has settled in the metropolitan areas of Guadalajara and Monterrey, in which space is the actor that determines the qualities of collective relations. The paper’s main objective is to understand how various translocal networks were created, how they cross borders and engage sociospatial dynamics and processes of identity by focusing on the specific case of Mixtecs living in these two cities. The kind, function, use and scale of collective dynamics that have been employed to preserve sociocultural practices over the years and across distances are analyzed.

Keywords : social networks; translocality; social space; migration.
