Abstract

GALEANO GASCA, Ells Natalia. The Gift and the Building of Trust by Young Artists in Contexts of Physical and Structural Violence in Medellín, Colombia. Nueva antropol [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.87, pp.84-106. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article analyzes the way young artists belonging to a group of acrobats in Medellín, Colombia build trust. Despite the precarious economic situation and living in territories violently controlled by illegal armed groups, the young people are inclined to build social tissues through art. This may be understood as management of safety through personal and collective trust. For the present analysis, we refer to Mauss’ concept of gift, analyzing the ties and administration of trust in the development of collective projects which reinforce personal and collective identities.

Keywords : young people; building trust; resistance in the face of violence; building peace; the gift.
