ORTEGA OLIVARES, Mario. La restructuración de las empresas de telefonía desde la percepción de los trabajadores de Zapotitlán. Nueva antropol [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.80, pp.13-34. ISSN 0185-0636.

The restructuration of Teléfonos de Mexico (Telmex) was the local expression of a global process of privatization and dismantling of state telephone monopolies. This is an ethnographic account of the telecommunications restructuring process in Mexico from the perspective of telephone workers in a traditional community on the outskirts of Mexico City, where Nahuatl was the spoken language and a system of mayordomías existed until the 1940s. Given the risk of a massive realignment of personnel, the Telmex union agreed to renegotiate the terms of its collective work agreement and to introduce a quality program to optimize productivity and service. In order to keep their jobs and to earn the productivity bonus, local telephone workers consolidated their efforts, channeling a work ethic with rural roots, and made a commitment to increase productivity.

Palavras-chave : Telmex; productivity; quality; flexibility; labor culture.
