Abstract

OJEDA LEDESMA, Gonzalo Lautaro. Animitas: apropiación urbana de una práctica mortuoria ciudadana e informal. Nueva antropol [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.79, pp.99-121. ISSN 0185-0636.

Roadside shrines are a paradigmatic example of a popular, spontaneous practice which eludes all parameters and tools of real planning in their construction and the steps leading up to it. To support this statement, the article presents an analysis of three cases of formal intervention in these tiny shrines (Central Freeway 2004-2005, Memorial Calama 2007, conaset "Driving for Life" Campaign 2011). Based on precedents discussed, the article presents a polyvalent anthropospatial model for analysis for this sort of urban practice, in which these shrines could perhaps be included in urban planning.

Keywords : "animitas" (roadside shrines); holograms of unforeseen death; urban dialects; tragic death.
