Abstract
ZAMORANO, Claudia; ALBA, Martha de; CAPRON, Guénola and GONZALEZ, Salomón. Ser viejo en una metrópoli segregada: adultos mayores en la ciudad de México. Nueva antropol [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.76, pp.83-102. ISSN 0185-0636.
The authors present the results of research on the relationship between growing old and urban life, focusing on socio-spatial segregation as the core of the analysis: How do this city's forms of segregation affect the living conditions of senior citizens? When is segregation a synonym of spatial injustice? To this end the different dimensions of segregation are considered, as well as the experiences and practices of senior citizens belonging to different socio-economic groups and living in different areas of Mexico City. This paper exposes the forms and possibilities of access to city spaces encountered by this group, which faces the problems inherent to age with a variety of physical, social and material resources.
Keywords : Senior citizens; socio-spatial segregation; access to the city; Mexico City's metropolitan area.
