Abstract

CORREA ORTIZ, Hernán. Comunidades históricas en la gran ciudad: emergencia político-cultural en Tecámac, Estado de México. Nueva antropol [online]. 2010, vol.23, n.73, pp.59-85. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article deals with both the municipality and the town of Tecámac, both located at the margins of Mexico Cit/s Metropolitan Area, in the State of Mexico. It's main axes are the historical analysis of the social structure of the towns in the municipality, and the capitalist and demographic growth experienced during the last three decades in this area. It also presents the rise of urban growth, which affected the towns, and how a political and cultural conflict developed from a dispute for the control of the local water supply system and the communal cemetery. This case is inter-weaved with a reflection aimed at establishing the relationship between the legal and anthropological discussion related to "original peoples", and the conflictive reality of political and cultural life in the towns, which experience a time of accelerated changes.

Keywords : communities; politics and culture in small towns; Mexico City's Metropolitan Area; Tecámac.
