Abstract

YTUARTE-NUNEZ, Claudia. Flujos y mudanzas globales del ámbar de Chiapas, México. Nueva antropol [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.70, pp.11-31. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article researches the social and cultural networks that are becoming part of new transformations of contemporary capitalist political economy. To pursue such analysis and theoretical discussion we decided to study the temporary space of a merchandise/object: amber. This is a resin of organic origin produced by a process of fossilization. The space analyzed in this paper is the displacement and disposition of the resin from its place of extraction to the biggest markets of color stones: the Tucson Gem Show, which has a global impact. This market takes place once a year in the city of Tucson, Arizona.

Keywords : global; culture; object; merchandise; markets; shows; Mexican amber.
