TORRES-RUIZ, René. The PRD and the struggle for presidential power in Mexico. Foro int [online]. 2022, vol.62, n.3, pp.511-557.  Epub 15-Ago-2022. ISSN 0185-013X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/fi.v62i3.2923.

This article offers a wide-ranging perspective on the different occasions on which the PRD participated in presidential elections between 1988 and 2018. Thirty long years in which, thanks to a process of political change, it was possible to promote a transformation in the electoral and party system in Mexico. These changes, in turn, enabled the PRD to become a competitive party and, on more than one occasion, a serious contender for the presidency. The article also aims to set out the successes and mistakes that the left-wing party committed in the presidential elections it participated in, as well as to disclose the illegitimate interventions carried out by different formal actors and the powers that be, with the aim of preventing the PRD from reaching the presidency.
