PINEDA PERAZA, Luis Armando et al. Rediscovery of a spider monkey population (Ateles geoffroyi) in Olomega lagoon, El Salvador. Acta Zool. Mex [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.3, pp.532-537. ISSN 2448-8445.

Ateles geoffroyi is one of the largest monkeys of the Neotropics and its distribution is from Mexico to northern Colombia. Spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi) in the Olomega lagoon, Department of San Miguel (Eastern El Salvador) were last reported in 1944, more than 70 years ago. The authors present information about the rediscovery of the species in an area where it was thought to be locally extinct. They also consider that there is an urgent need to study, monitor and protect this population in order to contribute to the conservation of a highly endangered primate in El Salvador.
