ZAMORA-LEDESMA, Salvador et al. Blood profile and seroprevalence analysis of Leptospira interrogans in gray fox ( Urocyon cinereoargenteus ) and coyote ( Canis latrans ) in two suburban areas in Queretaro, Mexico. Acta Zool. Mex [online]. 2016, vol.32, n.3, pp.279-285. ISSN 2448-8445.
In 2010, a study about Leptospira interrogans seroprevalence in gray fox and coyote in a natural protected area in Querétaro, México, was published; that paper showed a high prevalence of several Leptospira interrogans serovars in wild canids in Querétaro. This study was an update of L. interrogans value titers in two populations of wild canids in Querétaro, including the previous sample locality of 2010, National Park El Cimatario. We trapped and handled nine wild canids in two conserved areas, the National Park El Cimatario and the Community Reserve Zibatá. None of the captured canids presented L. interrogans titers. The wild canids' blood count and biochemical profiles remained within the ISIS reference values; however, VGM, CMGH, segmented and no segmented neutrofils, monocites, aspartate aminotransferase and urea of several of the captured individuals were off the charts. We ruled out the possibility that these values were related with a pathological scenario; instead, we deemed they were a consequence of stress handling.
