A synopsis of the 15 chromatic forms of Cotinis mutabilis (G. & P. 1833) distributed in Mexico is presented. The species is redescribed and a study by form is included, a new form zaragozai is added to the described ones. A color plate illustrating the forms is proposed; based on the study of 1,486 exemplars maps were generated by chromatic form using the Arc View program. The maximum and minimum corporal dimensions are included, the percentage of occupation and the proportional relation of each color are presented, temporal and geographical distribution by form is also included.
