The taxonomic categories mentioned in this paper belong to 12 orders, 34 families, 165 genera (13 are endemics), and 475 species (169 are endemics), 204 are monotypic and, 271 are polytypic species with 951 subspecies, 26 species exclusive to islands The information presented herein correspond only to the land native mammals of México, but the mention of two aquatic genus (Enhydra and Lontra) is made, and are excluded the components of the orders Cetacea, Pinnipedia, and Sirenia.
