In this article, the author examines the concept of certainty, because of its importance and impact on the law. The real incidence of this value on the legal system is understood in different ways by legal theorists and jurists in general. The author proposes a definition, based on two main ideas: the prediction of behavior and the application of norms to all subjects. Moreover, a typology of certainty is put forward, in the legislative and the judicial areas.
