CARPIZO, Jorge. Características esenciales del sistema presidencial e influencias para su instauración en América Latina. Bol. Mex. Der. Comp. [online]. 2006, vol.39, n.115, pp.57-91. ISSN 2448-4873.
The study of the differences between presidential and parliament systems allow the possibility of putting in historical context the understanding of forms of government in the American continent. In this way, the historical differences explain the diverse path followed by Latin American mode ls of government in relation to the American presidential syslem. Several faclors which set apart these systems, contributed to allow the emergence of charismatic leaders, with whom democracy broke down, leading thus to the inctalialion of dictatorships, military governments or a mixture of both. Thus, the author reflects on the faclors that explain the emergence and the evolution of presidential systems in Latin America.
