This article examines the forms of constitutional control, with the purpose of identifying the abstract mechanisms of control that seek to solve conflicts between norms and to "purify legal systems. More than analyzing the so called action of unconstitutionality of the Mexican legal system from a procedural point of view, the author reviews its function and scope as a means to solve abstract normative conflicts. Those conflicts represent a frequent and serious problem that judges have to face, and go beyond logical contradictions; hence the relevance of accepting the existence of other forms of incompatibility between norms.
