On December 2019, a new virus was announced as the cause of an outbreak of severe pneumonia in China. WHO declared the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic due to the rising cases worldwide On March 11th 2020. The incubation period ranges from 1-12.5 days (average 5-6 days) and its transmission is by droplets, and direct contact, with an unclear transmission during aerosol-generating procedures in the community setting. In almost all pediatric cases, a household contact is the source of infection, and most of these patients are asymptomatic and have a mild respiratory condition. However, few patients develop severe manifestations such as pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) which consists in a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations with hyperinflammatory symptoms that include prolonged fever, hypovolemia and shock that may lead to death. Unfortunately, there is no specific treatment approved for use in pediatric patients, despite the time that has passed and multiple different research studies have been conducted. For this reason, management must continue to be based on supportive treatment and timely case identification. This document aims to guide the management of pediatric patients suspected or confirmed of COVID-19, according to the findings of research studies conducted through January 2021.
