Introduction:
The aim of this study was to evaluate how pediatricians in emergency departments in Bogotá, Colombia use clinical prediction rules in traumatic brain injury (TBI), by.
Material and methods:
This was a survey applied to 80 pediatricians assigned to five pediatric emergency departments. Participants were invited via email. Under informed consent, a virtual questionnaire consisting of 12 questions was applied between November 2018 and February 2019.
Results:
Of the total, 62.5% said they used any of the rules or clinical algorithm. Not aware of these guidelines was the most frequent reason for not to use them. It was noted that there is no well-defined criteria for deciding performing tomography skull in mild TBI.
Conclusion:
Strengthen education seems necessary to unify the medical decisions around the TBI in children, in order to improve the quality of care and costs.
