Trauma in pediatrics is a frequent cause of consultation in the emergency department and is often the leading cause of death and disability in children worldwide. Care and management of these patients requires a multidisciplinary team of specialists in pediatrics, emergencies, pediatric surgery, as well as other specialties depending on the type of trauma. The patient should be considered in critical condition, from prehospital care to within the hospital setting. This article is a review of the literature and update on the initial approach, assessment and comprehensive management of polytraumatized pediatric patients.
