Using CR-39 nuclear track detectors, ambient dose equivalent H*(10) by fast and thermal neutrons in a Varian Clinac 2300 medical accelerator operating in the range of 6-18 MV was determined. Preliminary measurements to obtain the detector response in a moderated 252Cf neutron source were made according to the neutron energy. Track density rate, fluence rate and ambient dose equivalent H*(10) values were obtained for fast and thermal neutrons in the couch. Ambient dose equivalent H*(10) per unit Gy dose at the isocenter was 162 ± 11 µSv/Gy at a distance of 13 cm from the isocenter. Track density rate and fluence rate in the linac head are also presented.
