Abstract

CARTAS-FUENTEVILLA, R  and  SOLANO-ALTAMIRANO, J.M. Fluctones en la teoría de Yang-Mills. Rev. mex. fis. [online]. 2007, vol.53, suppl.4, pp.155-158. ISSN 0035-001X.

The topological phases of Yang-Mills theory are studied. The authors propose the fluctons as the topological fluctuations of vacuum, which are not necessarily self-dual. Instantons can be reached as a particular case of fluctons if they fulfill the self-duality condition. By proposing an appropriate elliptic complex and invoking the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the dimension of the moduli space of the fluctons is calculated. This dimension provides the number of degrees of freedom of the fluctons. The topological phases of the Yang-Mills theory are independent of the self-duality condition, but they depend on the smoothness of the fields that are defined over manifolds. As examples, S4, CP2 and K3 manifolds are considered to calculate the dimension of the moduli space of fluctons.

Keywords : Classical field theory; topological action; moduli space; Atiyah-Singer index theorem; instantons; fluctons.
