MORENO JUAREZ, Sergio. Presence, participation and feminine representation in both centenaries of the National Independence (1910 and 1921). Sig. his [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.27, pp.24-63. ISSN 1665-4420.

This article analyzes the presence of the heroines of the national insurgency within the historical narrative, their "feminized" allegorical representations in the Hispanic or Latin American nations, and the participation of Mexican women in the organization of the civic-patriotic performance during the commemoration of the Centenary of National Independence (1910 and 1921), showing that celebrations channeled the popular memory and the historical memory distinctively, and were more heterogeneous and the inclusive than what it is commonly believed. In addition, the article focuses on the study of the aesthetic idealization of Mexican women and their controlled integration in the process of biological-racial and socio-cultural mestizaje in order to overcome the alleged racial inferiority and degeneration of the national population.

Palavras-chave : centenaries; heroines; history; mestizaje; national identity.
