CORONEL PEREZ, Francisco Javier; CASTILLO JIMENEZ, Nallely; TRISTAN RODRIGUEZ, José L.  e  LOPEZ-WALLE, Jeanette M.. Motivational climates, mediating psychological processes and optimal performance in athletes. Sinéctica [online]. 2022, n.59, e1404.  Epub 13-Fev-2023. ISSN 2007-7033.  https://doi.org/10.31391/s2007-7033(2022)0059-009.

The study´s objective is to test a model of structures with the sequence of motivational climates of empowering or disempowering generated by coaches, → goals orientations → basic psychological needs → autonomous motivation → indicators of well-being/discomfort, and future practice intentions in athletes. The model is based on the postulate of Duda et al. (2018). Participants were 671 athletes from Sinaloa, México, who answered in an electronic version a battery of questionnaires on the different psychological variables of the model. The results confirm the positive relations of the model, both of the psychological variables with a positive meaning (motivational climate of empowerment, task orientation, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, autonomous motivation, eudaimonic well-being, and future intentions to continuó), as of the variables in the negative sense, (climate of disempowerment, ego orientation, frustration of basic psychological needs, emotional and physical exhaustion, and future intentions to leave). Therefore, the role of the coach plays an important role in the sports context, since it promotes a higher quality of sports involvement in their athletes and allows a future intention to practice sports.
