BAILON VASQUEZ, Fabiola. The Women’s Police Corps: Images and Representations, Mexico City, 1930. Secuencia [online]. 2020, n.107, e1750.  Epub 09-Set-2020. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i107.1750.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the immediate impact produced at the discourse level by the creation of the Women’s Police Corps of Mexico City in 1930. Based on a detailed review of articles, notes and images published in newspapers and specialized journals, it shows the existence of two contrasting visions: on the one hand, some articles and images focus on the harassment, discrimination, devaluation, mockery and representation of women police officers as objects of pleasure while others emphasize their physical capacity, ability to compete, training, reliability and confidence. It is argued that these images and representations constitute a gateway to approaching the ideas, ideals and prejudices of Mexican society of 1930, in which certain features of the gender order and its questioning were reflected.
