SGRO RUATA, María Candelaria  e  VAGGIONE, Juan Marco. Pope Francis and Sexuality: The Politics of Dislocation. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2018, vol.63, n.232, pp.153-179. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2018.232.57338.

As soon as Pope Francis was elected, a number of narratives on a potential new era of the Catholic Church began to circulate. Some of the Pope’s statements generated a climate of expectation and a flow of favorable opinions on his pontificate. In this context, we intend to review the sexual politics of the Catholic Church in the period inaugurated by the new Pontificate. Thus, we examine Pope Francis’ main public statements on sexuality (homosexuality, abortion) and the establishment of the Synod of the Family as the locus where the Church debates its official position on sexual morality. The analysis identifies a series of displacements resulting from a policy of dislocation that allows characterizing the Pope’s stance on sexuality.
